Nadis – Energetic Rivers Nadis are streams, channels, corridors or filaments of vital energy that circulate throughout the body, feeding life and moving the chakras. Similar to acupuncture meridians, their points are called tsubos in China. Their number is approximately 72.000. The nadis are closely related to the chakras. The central nadi is known as Sushumna and is located in the center of the body by the spinal column, which is called meru danda. The Sushumna is born in the Muladhara Chakra, and extends up the body, until it joins the Sahasrara Chakra (which is located at the top of the head). In the space outside the meru danda are two other nadis, named Ida and Pingala. Ida is the left channel, feminine, lunar, emotional and maternal in nature. Because it is associated with procreation and unification, it is also known as Ganga (the sacred river of India). Pingala is the right channel, masculine, solar, rational and dynamic in nature.
