Powerful plant easily found in São Paulo, Minas Gerais and in the central-west states. It has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, healing and anti-bacterial action.
Scientific name: Stryphnodendron adstringens.
Parts used: leaves and bark.
It is a medium-sized tree, its leaves can be used to make compresses and poultices or also in the form of an ointment to treat wounds and burns, accelerating the healing process. However, its properties are more concentrated in the bark of the trunks and branches and in natural gynecology this is the part that we are going to use.
Able to reduce the symptoms of candidiasis, barbatimão fights the proliferation of fungi, most popularly used in sitz baths. Amount of the plant and water + bath frequency is guided by your doctor if he is adept at alternative medicine.
The flavonoids present in the plant help to strengthen the body's natural defenses and strengthen immunity. In folk medicine it is widely used as a natural herbal remedy in the treatment of vaginal bleeding and also gonorrhea.
The pharmacological activity of the plant is due to the high content of tannins (they cause the contraction of blood vessels, reducing blood flow), composed of alkaloids (organic substance with therapeutic action) and flavonoids (an important structure for the protection and development of the plant).
It is possible to find barbatimão in soaps, which can bring benefits to the entire extension of the skin and genital region, creams and ointments to treat a specific region.
*Always talk to your doctor, only he will know how to prescribe the best way to use this powerful plant.
