The Sacred Sex

It is not easy to define sex. When we talk about the subject, a range of infinite variations on the subject emerges, which never ends.

Sex evolves the species and it also evolves through it, acquiring new and unimaginable variations that may surprise those who have never ventured to know the true wonders of this powerful force, capable of endowing the moving material particles of nature with a vital component.

There is a primitive, grotesque and animal sex, acting as a force of nature on the species, so that they multiply, just as there is a sublimated sex, elevated to the spheres of infinitesimal powers, as in homeopathy, loaded with the subtle potential qualities, capable of to raise man's consciousness to his divine and heavenly condition.

Sex can manifest itself as the physical and organic conformation, cellular and particular, which allows the distinction between man and woman, male and female, assigning them the roles they play, in a behavioral or more specific way, for reproduction. This source of energy determines the set of bodily characteristics that differentiate, in species, males and females, allowing them to reproduce and multiply.

Intrinsically associated with fertility and pleasure, sex can also be a key to inner evolution. Ancient mystery schools were already studying the transcendent potential that makes possible the altered states of perception and consciousness, capable of dominating and reframing the powerful instinct of life, channeling consciousness, communication and the expression of life to other levels of manifestation.

This manifestation of the power of sex, exercised over creatures at all times, is what determines the quality of life that the individual experiences in his life. Sexual force moves us unconsciously, shaping our behavior and regulating aspects of our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual vitality.

The regulatory force of our life moves organically through the genitals and also through the glands, activating the hormones that determine emotions.

The sexual energy is splendid. It generates pleasure and brings babies into the world, perpetuating our species, regulating the future of our generation. Without our parents' sexual act, none of us would be here. With sex, we become eternal in future generations through the spread of our genes.

Historically, sex and spirituality have been complicated bed partners. While some ancient religions included sexuality in their rites, others sought to control it, either by suppression or by severe limitations on its expression. Most dominant religions in the world have always preached the sublimation of sexual practices, trying to channel them into socially acceptable forms, such as marriage. Unfortunately, the sublimation proposed by religions has never been achieved, as it lacks adequate guidance for the quality of sexual energy to be altered, brought to a condition free and independent of the primitive aspects of sexual instinctive desire and appetite.

Sacred sex harnesses the power of sexuality in order to accelerate personal transformation and enhance our spiritual growth. Tantric meditations that aim at sacred sexuality do not require penetration, for example. Before penetrating, man needs to develop his skills in staying erect for a long time, without the need to ejaculate. Shakti (the woman), knowing the full potential of Shiva (the man) in sustaining pleasure, surrender and orgasm at higher levels, can relax and surrender freely to the energies that elevate her. If the woman (the Shakti) worries about the possibility of becoming pregnant, she produces tension, fear and anxiety.

Ejaculation is not necessary, except for purposes of procreation, fertilization, or when the partners are free from the prospect of pregnancy. In this respect, meditative practices offer an incredible variation of energy fields that attract peaceful souls and attuned to the light. When a Shakti is fertilized in these energetic conditions that attune spirits of greater evolution (the Avatars), our human species also benefits, since the grotesque and primitive practices of conventional sex attract spirits compatible with moral degradation, distortion of values, violence and practices vicious diseases that are affected at the time of intercourse and fertilization.

The main purpose of Tantra is to open a channel of communion between incarnated beings and beings from other existential spheres that also transit through our system. Unfortunately, we live among cultures that degenerate the importance of this vital energy (kundalini) and transgress the role of the feminine and the masculine, creating extremely aggressive and unworthy systems for the human species.

Tantra aims to reveal the sacred aspect of human beings, placing them in the condition of beings capable of transiting between worlds dissociated from ephemeral pleasure and material possessions.

Several ancient traditions have tried to include sexuality in their religious rites. Around 3.000 BC, the Sumerians ritually staged the Sacred Marriage - the union between a priestess of their goddess Inanna and a priest-prince, as a means of obtaining favors from the goddess for their cities. In Greece, there was a type of ritual sex, called hiero gamos, which consisted of the traditional reconstitution of the marriage of the goddess of love and fertility with her lover, the young and virile god of vegetation. Ancient sources suggest that there were certain practices among adherents of the Mystery schools of Eleusis, dedicated to the goddess Demeter. There is evidence that certain rituals were also practiced by the Egyptians in the cult of Isis and that it remained until the Roman era.

What is the relationship between Tantra and Sex?

Of all forms of pleasure, the most contagious and overflowing is sexual pleasure. The greatest source of pleasure that human beings can experience is orgasm. But orgasm is still far from having its full potential developed and understood by human society. There are some physical and psychological factors that negatively interfere with the nature, quality and intensity of orgasm, affecting or even canceling its potential for transcendence.

From a physical point of view, the difficulties are related to the low muscle tone of the sexual muscles (the male penile muscles and the clitoral muscles and intravaginal of the woman).
