Relationship between male and female dysfunctions
Erectile dysfunction in men is similar to frigidity in women. Both conditions are characterized by inhibition in the sexual response. Impotent men do not respond with erection to erotic stimulation. Your penis is still flaccid. In frigid women, the vagina remains tight or flaccid and dry. The jouissance phase in the sexual response, frigidity and impotence, is not necessarily impaired. In other words, although it is somewhat rare, impotent men can ejaculate with a flaccid penis and the unresponsive woman is able to climax even if there is no lubrication. The treatment of both male and female versions of this disorder is similar in terms of its objective, which is to develop adequate sensitivity, create a tension-free and relaxed environment that allows the person to indulge in this stimulation. Delayed ejaculation with lack of pleasure is similar to orgasmic dysfunction in women. In both disorders there is specific inhibition of the orgasmic component of the sexual response, but the vasocongestive component may remain unimpaired. Erection in the penis of the delayed ejaculator and swelling and lubrication in the orgasmic woman may be perfectly normal. It is interesting to note the differences in the relative frequency with which this condition occurs in the two sexes: orgasmic inhibition is relatively rare in men; in women, on the contrary, it is the most common sexual complaint.
The treatment of both male and female versions of orgasmic retardation is based on the same principle, namely, the gradual extinction of unwanted inhibition. In both disorders, the therapeutic strategy is to maximize the stimulating aspects of the sexual situation and thereby increase the potency of orgasm; effect a progressive decrease in anxiety associated with orgasm and divert the person's attention from exerting conscious control over the orgasmic reflex.
Premature ejaculation is, in fact, the exact opposite of delayed ejaculation. The aim of treating the premature ejaculator is to teach him to focus attention on his erotic sensations by trying to divert the patient's attention from his vigilant observation of the penis, a spectator role, in order to allow the orgasm reflex to occur naturally.
Some women have difficulty indulging in orgasmic responses or such a small onset of orgasm that it causes them to climax with what for many women would be no more than minimal stimulation. Furthermore, these easily attainable female orgasms are sometimes not very intense, just like the reflex orgasms of premature ejaculators, which are almost always perceived as providing only a modicum of pleasure. However, these easily orgasmic women and their partners rarely complain of this condition, in stark contrast to premature ejaculators, who are unhappy with their lack of control. This difference is not surprising because ejaculation usually ends the sexual interaction, whereas female orgasm, especially in women who experience multiple orgasms, does not mean the end of the relationship.
