Vaginismus
posted by Deva Harischandra Jessica
It is a psychophysiological syndrome characterized by involuntary contraction of the muscles of the perineum adjacent to the lower third of the vagina. This contraction can be mild, causing discomfort during penetration, or it can be severe, causing total impediment to penetration.
In severe cases, the person needs to be seen by a professional specializing in pelvic physiotherapy, who will work with the use of cones to treat vaginismus. They are cones of different thicknesses, which, associated with a work of breathing and movements of induction and relaxation of the muscles, go little by little, allowing the vagina to be penetrated without pain and in a pleasant way.
It is very common for vaginismus to have its origin in painful emotional issues in a woman's life, such as having gone through a situation of violence or sexual abuse, abortion, negative sexual experiences, fear, unresolved betrayal, overvaluation of virginity, by cultural repressions about sex and sexuality, very rigid moralistic views in this regard, among others.
It is very important to work with each case with an attentive look at its specificities and a lot of love, respect, reception, care, attentive listening, spoken therapy for the resignification of beliefs and values, work involving the stimulation of the body, relaxation, permission, pleasure, the acceptance of sexuality as a potential for life.
